Laredo Center for the arts will be having online art activities for children of all ages. We hope these activities are a source of fun for families during these trying times. The activities are inspired by influential artists, as well as, current events. These activities are posted on our LCA at Home tab, Facebook page, as well as on our Instagram as highlights. We encourage everyone to send us the final products of their activities or tag us @laredocenterforthearts or send it to us through Facebook. We will post the photos sent to us on our social media account.
This weeks LCA AT HOME art lesson was inspired by Alexander Calder.
LCA AT HOME is our free step by step simple educational virtual art lessons for our out of town patrons and locals to enjoy!
LCA feels it is important now more than ever for us to continue supporting, empowering, and celebrating artistic development in our children & young adults at this time.
Once you are done with this lesson you can hang your very own mobile inspired by Alexander Calder.
Alexander Calder was an American sculptor known both for his innovative mobiles and static monumental public sculptures. He didn't limit his art to sculptures; he also created paintings, jewelry, theatre sets and costumes. Calder utilized his innovative genius to change the course of modern art. He began by developing a new method of sculpting: by bending and twisting wire, he essentially "drew" three-dimensional figures in space. He is renowned for the invention of the mobile, whose suspended abstract elements move and balance in changing harmony.
Let’s stay home, stay safe, & make ART! LCA ’s you!
HAPPY CRAFTING!!
